| Well, boys and girls, I officially hurt myself bad this time.
As many of you know I work with a bladesmith at the Ren Faires, and we were doing a show at (of all places) Six Flags this weekend. While grinding a knife on a bench grinder, I hurt my thumb.
As I was working, someone asked a question of me and I turned around. When I did I felt the still spinning grinder start to fall. I was a little pinned in the seat, so I instinctively reached and grabbed the grinder with my right hand (yes, I am right handed). I lost a good bit of my thumb. No gross details in public, but I will tell you what you want to know when I see you.
I am ok, just can't use my right hand for anything ... anything ... for a month. Please pray for a speedy recovery because I NEED one. | | |
| I bought a new CD today. Let me follow this up with a general statement about my music purchasing tendencies. I don't usually buy CDs. If I like a specific song ... hello iTunes! If I like a whole album ... hello iTunes! For the sake of argument ... I have never bought a CD on release day. Well, there was that one Shane and Shane CD, but everyone has bought one of those on release day (go ahead, admit it, it helps with the healing process). This CD is by Charlie Hall. No, its not the newest latest Charlie Hall ... it is actually a two CD set of the last two of his albums. On the first, entitled On The Road To Beautiful, I was listening to a song called My Drink. I love the melody which caused me to listen twice to the track. The words then caught me and I actually heard the song. "See the blazes that burns in me when I see You And look to me oh, Lord On You I meditate and as I think my soul it faints for You ... " (emphasis added) Psalms 84 starts off talking about the same experience, using the same phrase. The idea I come back to is faints. I played football for a number of years. I remember fondly *cough cough* going to practice in the summer months before classes had begun. There were a couple of times due to heat and lack of proper hydration that I fainted during my conditioning and practices. Let me tell you in short that this is NOT a fun experience. When your body becomes dehydrated and is on the verge of fainting, parts of your body do some pretty strange stuff. Your eyes have a problem focusing, and pops of light, very similar to fireworks but without the oohs and aahs, begin to burst all over the place. Your head begins to throb, more like pulsing, and it hurts to even take a breath. Most of the time by this point your knees and leg muscles are giving out, and you have had to kneel or sit down. Your stomach now begins to lurch and you double over. At this point your vision does its next stunt and you are staring down a tunnel at the ground which feels now like it is more than forty feet away. Then, you are on the ground. Whether on your back or face, there you are an unglorious heap of humanity, all in a matter of seconds. Now, keep in mind that this example of my fainting experience illustrates what both Charlie and the psalmist are trying to convey. That our soul is so thirsty and distraught for intimacy with God that it is literally fainting to establish that contact. It yearns and longs and strives to be closer to God, and would be that way ... if it weren't for us. I am really bad about this part of my life. Letting my soul go and find its place alongside God's heart. Letting it recharge itself in the place that it most wants to be. I will work hard at school, work, (and yes) even church before I will let my soul just rest in the presence of Abba Father. So, I encourage anyone reading this to take some time off this week. Both physically and spritually. PS: I like Shane and Shane's music ... I really do. That is sort of a running joke among some of my friends who will likely read this blog. | | |
| Yep, I am just in the mood to do something that is totally unconstructive right this moment, so I am going to write down a few of the latest happenings in the Warren household. We have finally settled into the house, again, and we think we have finished rearranging the furniture. We have a great little house, in a good location, and we are very satisfied with where God has moved us. Our rent is lower, our bills are not astronomically high, and our neighborhood is pretty quiet. These are all good things in my book. The only downside is we do not have a shower ... we have a bath tub, with running water, and yes it is indoors ... but no shower. This is only a minor inconvience, so we make due. Work is going alright, and I have been praying a lot about whether I need to move up in the company or just be satisfied with my current position. For now, it seems that God has me where I need to be. My bosses are great, and work with my school schedule. I have weekends off, and get paid a decent amount of money. Again, no complaints here. School is going alright, but I am glad I only took one class. This class by itself, has as much homework time in it as 2 normal courses combined. Gotta love computer classes! Did I also mention that my teacher acts like a complete idiot? I won't rant, because that is not what type of post I want to start. Other than that, everything is going well. Got a few decisions to make about school, holidays, and life in general. Hope all is well in your worlds, see you all soon! | | |
| Hello out there, my long lost ... Ok, so maybe I was the one that was lost. No matter. Here I am again relaying the happenings of my new life, married to Esther and enjoying every minute of it. Currently, we have just finished rearranging the "study" in our house. We decided it just wasn't working, so we got rid of a few pieces of furniture we didn't need and rearranged everything else. It is nice now, a big open space, but I am told it means we need to get a new area rug ... hello, Canton!! Other than that, I am still working at Suddenlink, still in the Quality department being the global administrator for two different applications. It keeps me busy and pays the bills. My bosses are good, and help me out wherever they can. Its nice to have people at work who look after you. Anyhow, other that nothing terribly exciting to report. I will sit down and type a proper explanation of events ... such as they are soon, I promise. Have a great week! | | |
| Hello there strangers! As my fiance and I have noticed, it is definitely crunch time. We are 18 days away from the wedding, and there is a ton of stuff to do. We are getting it all done, but its starting to feel like a juicer, and we are the orange...if you catch my drift. However, in the midst of all this hub-bub (yes, I actually used that word), Esther and I have been given the opportunity to housesit for a friend of hers. Basically, its more like animal sitting, because that is the primary reason we have to do anything. They have 8 horses (one with a week old baby), 12 golden retrievers, and half a dozen cats. She asked us to water and feed them, play with them a bit, ride the horses so they work out. Since all of this takes about 4 hours a day, we are left with a great upside. Lazy time in the country! Part of my time was spent with a digital camera, exploring different parts of the ranch. Here are some shots of what I found... This looks like an advertisement, or so I am told.
I found this little guy sleeping on the four wheeler.
Same fellow, exploring his own reflection.
I just liked the natural lighting on the tree
I am told this is a hay something or other... <shrugs> I don't know.
Its moments like the following, where I realized that I was watching God have some fun....
Pretty, isn't it?
